Theophilus. Gold Solidus (4.03 g), 829-842. Naples(?), 829-circa 831.*ΘEOFI-LOS ?ASILE, crowned bust of Theophilos facing, wearing loros, holding globus cruciger with central pellet and cruciform scepter. Reverse: CVRIE ?OHΘH τO SO δOVLO *E, patriarchal cross set on three steps. Cf. DOC 31c.2 (no pellet at beginning of obv. legend); SB 1684. Very Rare. Toned, weakness in centers. About Very Fine.
