About Extremely Fine.

From the Euclidean Collection; ex Roma Numismatics Ltd, E-Sale 80 (4/2/2021), Lot 1535.

The reverse of this coin, honouring 'Mars the Bringer of Peace', attempts to put a positive spin on the peace recently brokered with the Goths who had just killed the previous Emperors - Trajan Decius and his son Herennius Etruscus - in the Battle of Abritus. It was not a peace won by actions relating to Mars, however, but a rather humiliating capitulation which resulted in the Goths leaving Roman territory in exchange for an annual subsidy and loaded with the spoils and captives they had captured on their raid.
