So-called Gärtnerpfennig, awarded to diligent students during the 19th century, especially in the Bern area. The gardener is an allegory of diligence.
Obv.: RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS; pointed, crowned coat of arms over crossed laurel and palm branches.
Rev.: CULTURA MITESCIT, kneeling gardener to the right, planting a young tree; in the exergue PRÆM · DILIG ·.
