By P. H. Müller, on the Treaty of Passarowitz on 21 July 1718, which resulted in the cession of several Ottoman territories to the Habsburgs. The treaty was regarded as an extraordinary success in Vienna at the time.
Obv.: NVLLA SALVS BELLO PACEM DI POSCIMVS (translation from Latin: no safety in war we beg the gods for peace). Two male figures in Turkish costume stand opposite each other and hold olive branches in their hands, two crossed swords lie on the ground, landscape in the background. PAX PETENTIBVS DATA (peace given to the seekers) in two lines in exergue.
Rev.: ACCEPTA ACCEPTÆ SUNT VERBERA CAUSA QUIETIS (accepted being accepted because of quiet). Two Turkish drums with cracked skins hang on a withered tree, desolate landscape in the background, crescent moon setting on the horizon to right. PASSAROVITU•XXI•IULY•Aᵒ. MDCCXVIII in two lines in exergue, star below.
