Silver Medal, 1689. Nuremberg.
by P. H. Müller on the Act of Toleration.
The Toleration Act of 1689 granted limited religious freedom to Protestant dissenters who pledged allegiance to the Crown, while continuing to exclude Catholics, Jews, nontrinitarians, and atheists from these rights.
Obv.: GVLIELMVS REX ANGL • SCOT • FRANC • ET HYBERN / PATRIAE DECUS ANGLIAE PRAESIDIVM; laureate bust of William III facing right.
Rev.: TE SERVATORE MON SERVIMUS; crowned Britannia greets the king holding a cross and an open Bible with inscription, behind Religio and Libertas; RESTITUTORI BRITANNIAE 1689 in three lines in exergue.
Edge inscription: REGIA CREDE MIHI RES EST SUCCURRERE LAPSIS.
