Description

Mint State. Scarce | GREAT BRITAIN. HANOVER (TEMP). George III.
Bronze Medal, After 1817.
Britannia seated to left, holding a table of laws to be granted to the Ionian Islands; statue of Neptune on pedestal behind; MDCCCXVII above, ENGLAND GIVES A CONSTITUTION TO in two lines in exergue / Seven women representing the seven Ionian Islands dancing around a flagpole flying the British flag; DEPAULIS F in right field, THE IONIAN ISLANDS and MUDIE D in exergue.

This medal was the last of Mudie's series of National Medals commemorating the British victories over Napoléon. The sovereignty of the Ionian Islands was given to Britain in the Treaty of Paris in November 1815 and the "Maitland constitution" was ratified.
