CELTIC. NORTHERN GAUL, MORINI.
Gold 1/4 Stater, circa 60-30 BC.
'Uniface Tree' type. Obv: plain. Rev: rooted tree with bar and crescent to left; bent line (lightning bolt?) below.
Very Fine; a clear example of a Rare and enigmatic issue, a strange gem of Celtic coinage.
While the reverse design of this type is obscure, there is some consensus that what is represented is a tree with its roots stretching into the ground, and either a lightning bolt or stream. The tree may symbolise the pagan 'Tree of Life' or some other sacred tree.
