CELTIC. IBERIA, EMPORION.
Silver Drachm, circa 218-206 BC.
Struck during the time of the Second Punic War. Obv: wreathed head of Arethousa (or Persephone) right. Rev: Pegasos, with Chrysaor figure as head, flying right; EMΠOPITΩN below.
About Extremely Fine; minor roughness to obv., with an attractive rev.
Chrysaor is often overshadowed by his more famous brother, Pegasus, yet his story is no less intriguing. Born from the blood of Medusa when Perseus severed her head, Chrysaor emerged fully formed, a striking figure with a golden sword in hand - his name meaning "He of the Golden Blade." Unlike the winged Pegasus, Chrysaor's destiny was rooted in the earth, and he became the father of Geryon, the fearsome three-bodied giant.
