Description

GRIQUATOWN: Victoria, 1873-1880, AE penny, ND (1890), KM-Pn6, Hern-GT21, Emblem of the London Missionary Society, a dove flying with an olive branch in its beak with legend above and below, PCGS graded Specimen 64 BN, ex Charles E. Wyatt, November 1985. Griquatown (Griekwastad) was the capital of the British Colony of Griqualand West from 1873 to 1880, with its own flag and currency, before it was annexed into the Cape Colony. Struck by Messrs. Otto Nolte and Co., Berlin, from dies prepared by Wolfgang Lauer. Finest and only piece graded at PCGS.
