Description

PATIALA: Ajit Singh, ca. 1845, AR rupee (11.11g), "Sarhind ", ND, Cr-31. SS-204d and 207, scimitar personal mark, representing Ajit Singh, who claimed the throne after the death of his father in 1813, but surrendered to his brother Karam soon afterwards, EF, RR, ex Mohun Singh Collection. This very rare type has been assigned to both Sahib Singh (SS-204d) & his son Karam Singh (KM-31, SS-207), but has now been securely assigned to Ajit Singh, son of Sahib and brother of Karam. This is confirmed by issued dated AH1227 (listed by Saran Singh as 1225) and 1228 (#244306), and characterized by the scimitar personal mark.
