BRAZIL: João VI, 1816-1822, AR 960 reis, 1815-R, KM-307.3, struck over Spanish Colonial 8 reales, UNC Under the US Coinage Act of 1834, Brazilian 960 reis overstruck types were legal tender for 100 cents in the United States. The Coinage Act of 1857 ended the status of foreign coins in the US as legal tender.
