Description

SAFFARID: Ya'qub b. al-Layth, 861-879, AR dirham (2.94g), al-Banjhir, AH260, A-1401.1, citing the caliph al-Mu'tamid, VF. Banjhir, was located in the Panjshir Valley (Dare-ye Panjšer), literally Valley of the Five Lions in north-central Afghanistan. Banjhir was one of the richest silver mines in the area which at its height reportedly lived 10,000 miners.
