Description

UMAYYAD: AE fals (1.78g), NM, ND, A-O206, Gyselen-71, eastern issue; legends exactly as the standard Syrian type A-153 but with the Pahlavi word APD ("good") added above muhammad / rasul / Allah on the reverse; one of finest known examples of this type, XF, RR. Dated by Treadwell circa AH96-100 (about 695-700 AD), just before mints & dates were added. The mint(s) of issue are undetermined, but all known examples share the calligraphy and broad thin flan characteristic of the fulus of al-Basra & al-Kufa dated 100-102.
