Description

HADHRAMAUT: cast AE heavy unit (67.54g), ca. 1st century BC-AD, Walker 1-3 (NC 1937, p.260-79), Huth--, Zeno-314531 (this coin), 47mm, beardless male head right, his hair in long ringlets, South Arabian M to left, SYN to right // eagle with open wings standing right on wavy baseline, ShQR to left, YShH to right, all inscriptions retrograde, very rare with only a few examples known, VF. The word SYN refers to Sayyin, the moon god and supreme deity of the Kingdom of Hadhramaut. ShQR refers to Shaqar, the royal palace in the capital city of Shabwa.
