INDIA: Republic, AR medal, 51mm; Air Force medal: Indian Air Force badge // jet airplane; with original ornate necklace and in a red box that was either officially or privately made; according to the consignor, this medal was "awarded to hill tribe chieftains for protection and safe return of downed Indian Air Force pilots", XF, RRR. We have found no reference to this medal. It was used after Indian independence in 1947, perhaps as late as the 1960s or 1970s.
