Description

YEMEN: al-Hadi al-Hassan b Yahya, fl. 1904, silverwashed AE buqsha (1.56g), NM, AH1322, Y-C1, A-F1149, legends al-hadi li-din Allah // al-hasan bin yahya 1322; likely struck at either Sa'da or Barat in northern Yemen; bold strike, choice VF, RRRR. This appears to be the first example of this exceedingly rare type offered at auction. Only two other examples are confirmed, Zeno-11093 in a private collection and the example in the Tübingen Collection, which was found in Yemen. The identity of al-Hadi is unknown, but the legends and date are indisputable. Al-Hadi was probably the figurehead of one of several revolts that erupted upon the death of Hamid al-Din in AH1322.

Estimate: USD 600 - 800
