Part of a series of 11 bronze medals issued by the Romanian Numismatic Society in 1904-1905. The medals depict eleven of Romania's great princes: Stefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great), Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave), Vasile Lupu, Matei Basarab, Mircea cel Batrin (Mircea the Old), Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), Petru Schiopul, Bogdan III, Neagoe Basarab, Radu IV and Serban Cantacuzino. On the obverse of every medal is the portrait of the prince and the regnal dates, while the reverse is dedicated to memorable events of that particular reign or pertinent seals and signatures.
