GUATEMALA: Republic, AR peso, 1894, KM-216, counterstamp on Chile 1877 peso, EF, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection. By 1894, foreign coins had become so prevalent in circulation that on August 10, the government authorized their counterstamping at the mint, with official ½ real dies of 1894, to legitimize their circulation.
