Description

FRANCE: Napoleon I, as Emperor, 1804-1814, 1815, AE medal (38.15g), 1806, Bramsen-546, 41mm bronze medal for Napoleon's Entry into Berlin by Andrieu and Jaley, laureate bust right with NAPOLEON - EMP. ET ROI. around // view of the famous Berlin Gate surmounted by a quadriga led by Victory with PORTE DE BRANDEBOURG around and L'EMPEREUR ENTRE A BERLIN / LE XXVII OCTOBER / MDCCVI in exergue, slight obverse discoloration, plain edge, Choice AU. After the victories of Jena and Auerstadt on October 26, Napoleon entered Potsdam and visited the tomb of Frederick the Great and said in front of his marshals: "If he were still alive, we would not be here." The next day he triumphantly entered Berlin at the head of the Grand Army.
