Description

FULAYTID SHARIF OF MECCA: Mukaththir b. 'Isa b. Fulayta, 1188-1197, AR dirham (1.14g), [Makka], ND, A-1159M, legends al-amir / abu muhammad / mukaththir // al-imam / ahmad / al-nasir (al-Nasir is the 'Abbasid caliph 1180-1125), with the legends on both sides around a central double triangle; always without mint & date, crude VF, RRRR. Although without mint name, one version may have the mint name Makka (Zeno-182392). The triangle design was also used on the gold and silver coins of the contemporary Ayyubid of Yemen ruler Tughtegin.
