VENEZUELA: Caracas, AR proclamation medal (10.87g), 1812, Herrera-8, Medina-268, 31mm silver proclamation medal for Fernando VII by Domingo de Monteverde, bust right with FERNo VII REI D - LAS ESPAÑAS arond // lion standing left holding shield with LE PROCo CARs CEP 24D 1812 DOMo D MONTEUe around, die crack and cud on obverse (as seen on all specimens known to us), somewhat weak centers, small flan crack, some luster, especially on the reverse, struck to proclaim the new King in Caracas, after the fall of the First Republic, plain edge, EF, RR. We know of only two sales records for this piece, one from a Heritage auction in 2010, the other from a Tauler & Fau sale last year. Both pieces were holed and scratched, much inferior to this piece. Tauler & Fau say that there are less than 15 known examples.
