Description

ARAB-BYZANTINE: Standing Caliph, ca. 692-697, AE fals (2.92g), A-3544, undeciphered mint, possibly al-Lâthiqiya in western Syria, within the Jund Qinnasrin (as confirmed by style), but that is a very tentative suggestion; Goodwin (pp. 79-80) knew of only two examples of this mystery mint, Fine, RRR. Lathiqiya (modern Lakakia, ancient Laodicea) is the major Syrian port city, home to the modern Russian military base.
Estimate: $120 - $160
