GREAT MONGOLS: Anonymous, ca. 1220s-1230s, AV dinar (3.05g), Bukhara, ND, A-B1967, totally anonymous, only the kalima on both sides, with the mint below the kalima on both sides, usual weakness in the margin, EF. From the large group of at least 20-30 examples of this type that have reached the market, it is now clear that this type is always undated, with the mint name Bukhara beneath both obverse & reverse fields, and as Baldat Bukhara in the obverse margin (side with "la sharik lahu" in the 3rd line of the field), and the first part of Qur 'an verse 9:33 in the reverse margin. The overall style suggests that this is an early issue, probably shortly after the death of Chingiz Khan in AH624.
