Description

MADAGASCAR / EAST AFRICA: AV dinar (3.86g), A-A1192, contemporary East African imitation, barbarous imitation derived from the Spanish Umayyad caliph Hisham II, complete with the name of his hajib, 'Âmir, based on an example that was probably dated AH377 or 387, either directly from an example of Hisham or from a Khazrunid (Moroccan) imitation of a dinar of Hashim, almost certainly unique, of great historic interest, as it reveals the trade connection between Spain & East Africa, VF, RRRR, ex Diego Suárez hoard. From a group of gold coins mounted into a gold belt which was found by divers off Diego Suárez (Antsiranana), Madagascar circa 1955-1965. Please note that all specimens from the belt have had mounts removed.
