Description

OTTOMAN EMPIRE: Mehmet II, 1451-1481, AV sultani, Kostantiniye, AH882, A-1306, NP-79, wonderful bold strike, small die flaw at about 5h at the reverse rim (as on most known specimens dated 882), ANACS graded MS63, R. The year 882 is much rarer than 883 - there are about 8 times as many dated 883 as 882 on CoinArchives. This is the first Islamic coin to bear the phrase "darib al-nadr wa sahib al-'izz al-nasr fi'l-birr wa'l-bahr", "the striker of precious metal, and master of glory, the victorious on land and sea", reference to the Ottoman expansion on both the European and Asian sides of the Bosporus.
Estimate: USD 3250 - 4000
