JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.90 gms), Military Mint Traveling with Caesar, 49 B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5.
Cr-443/1; CRI-9; Syd-1006. Obverse: Elephant advancing right, trampling upon horned serpent; Reverse: Emblems of the pontificate; simpulum, aspergillum, securis, and apex. A type that is ever-popular in world of ancient coins, the Caesar 'elephant' denarius is a must for any collection, and the present specimen offers better metal quality and centering than most encountered. Lightly toned, with a good deal of lustrous brilliance remaining.
