GERMANY. Franconian Circle - Henneberg-Ilmenau. 60 Kreuzer, ND (1693-95). Nuremberg Mint. NGC EF-45, Countermark: AU Standard.
KM-31.7; Dav-686; A.N.S. Museum Notes No. III-Pl. XIV # 3. Issued by order of the Assay meeting of the three circles, which assembled at Nuremberg on 24 July to 3 August 1693, adopted by assay meeting of 12-22 December 1693 until at least 7 December 1695. "FC" monogram with 60 N above countermark applied to a 1692-BA Henneberg-Ilmenau 2/3 Taler of Johan Ernst of Saxe-Weimar (1683-1707). Countermark well struck and clear exhibiting a small die crack in the upper portion. An attractive example with light old envelope tone. After a series of debasements it was necessary to revalue the circulating specie in the region. It was eventually decided that all appropriate coinage was to be revalued at 60 new Kreuzer.
