PHILIPPINES. Octavo, 1820-M F. Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown Gold Shield.
KM-8; Basso-9. RARE in this state of preservation. A boldly struck and perfectly detailed little copper coin with medium red-brown surfaces combined with light mocha patina atop of the devices. Though technically not graded as fine as the example sold in the Heritage September Long Beach auction 2018 Lot # 32134 (NGC MS-64), the present example exhibits a much better strike with bold central design features and legends which are typically encountered weak or uneven. A vastly superior representative of the type where the numeric grade certainly does not reflect the overall quality and as such should command a premium. A real treat for the advanced collector looking for outstanding examples.
