25.78 gms. KM-21; Segura-Pg. 16 (for type); Guardian-Pg. 62/3, Type VI; Brunk-Pg.37 # 202/3 (for basic type). Type I Countermark. Issued by decree of 19 November 1841. Plug removed from obverse at base of Phrygian cap; Reverse: Double 6-pointed star within circle on eagle's breast, test punch at 12 between "Republica" and "Mexicana". All on an 1827/6-MoJM Mexican 8 Reales, coin axis. An attractively toned example with lovely soft grey patina in the open fields and atop of the devices while a medium grey hugs the devices. A wholesome original survivor with a great look.
