★ Incredible 24 Livres Hailing from the Eliasberg Collection ★
FRANCE. 24 Livres, 1793-W. Lille Mint. Republic. NGC MS-63.
Fr-478; KM-626.5; Gad-62. An incredibly majestic piece, this example offers fully lustrous surfaces along with an intense peripheral tone containing tinges of burnt sienna. Some adjustment marks, more obvious on the reverse, are noted, but are wholly consistent with the type. Struck following the execution of Louis XVI and the proclamation of the Republic, this has the distinction of being among the first gold coins to be produced under the new form of government, and was the only gold denomination of the period, supplanted a decade later by the Napoleonic issues.
