RIC-115; RSC-303. Obverse: IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, laureate head right; Reverse: TR P IX IMP XV COS VIII P P, elephant, wearing armor, advancing left. Just a hint of light wear on the high points prevents a Mint State designation for this popular historical type, offering a high degree of luster and some alluring peripheral iridescence. This type commemorates the dedication of the Colosseum in Rome, which opened during the reign of Titus in A.D. 80. The elephant conveys the exotic wildlife which was showcased at the new venue which held games and spectacles for 100 straight days.
