AUGUSTUS, 27 B.C.- A.D. 14. AR Denarius (3.81 gms), Lugdunum Mint, 8 B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Fine Style.
RIC-199; RSC-40. Obverse: AVGVSTVS DIVI F, laureate head right; Reverse: C CAES / AVGVS F, Caius Caesar, holding sword and reins, on horse galloping right; to left, aquila between two signa. An exceptionally pleasing and attractive issue under Augustus, this pleasing strike exhibits just a hint of light wear on the high points, yet still retains a great deal of luster and some alluring burnt sienna and golden toning highlighting the devices on the obverse. Seldom pieces from this first emperor are encountered with this much eye appeal.
