★ Pedigreed Year 2 Sela ★
JUDAEA. Bar Kochba Revolt, C.E. 132-135. AR Sela (14.47 gms), Jerusalem Mint, Year 2 (133/4 C.E.). NGC Ch EF 45, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Overstruck.
Mildenberg-42 (O11/R29); Meshorer-233; Hendin-1388. Obverse: Facade of the Jerusalem Temple, containing showbread table; star above, "Jerusalem" around; Reverse: Lulav; etrog to left; "year two of the freedom of Israel" around. A deeply toned example, offering a fairly bold strike for the type on a compact recycled flan. The flans for these types tend to be Provincial Tetradrachms from the late 1st century-early 2nd century, accounting for some of the striking defects which are commonly present.
