1923-D Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. MS-66+ (PCGS).
This lovely example exhibits delicate pinkish-apricot highlights to dominant orange-gold surfaces. Sharply struck and highly lustrous with captivating eye appeal. The 1923-D is the most available mintmarked double eagle from the Roaring Twenties. Obviously many of the 1,702,250 coins struck were used in international transactions, and thus spared from the widespread melting of gold coins during the late 1930s. Even so, upper end Gems such as this are scarce from a condition standpoint. An ideal candidate for an advanced type set or double eagle collection.
