"1844" (ca. 1860) Henry Clay Campaign Medal. DeWitt HC 1844-2. Copper. Mint State.
51 mm. One of 25 struck in copper about 1860. Lovely glossy light brown with a subtle halo of mint color on the obverse. This is more boldly lustrous on the reverse, where highlights of pastel blue and rose blend with the remnants of mint color. A really lovely example, with only a few truly minuscule marks on the raised reverse rim noted. We've only sold one of these in copper since the 2013 Ford sale.
From the Harry and Phyllis Salyards Collection. Earlier from John Kraljevich at the 2013 EAC Convention, May 2013.
