1859 Liberty Seated Dime. Transitional. Judd-233, Pollock-280. Rarity-6+. Silver. Reeded Edge. Proof-63 (PCGS). CMQ.
A gorgeous example of this scarce type desired by both advanced Liberty Seated dime collectors and Pattern specialists. Minimally toned in sandy-silver iridescence with a universally frosty to semi-reflective finish. Faint parallel die polish lines are visible in the fields on both sides, typical of the issue. The design elements are fully struck, crisply rendered, and untouched across the high points. Dazzling and undoubtedly choice for the assigned grade. Long ago adopted by serious students of the Liberty Seated dime discipline, this transitional type was produced in the era when the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA was being moved from the reverse to the obverse where it would replace the familiar Stars Obverse design, thus creating the so-called "dime without a country." A significant rarity, there are fewer than two dozen distinct specimens of Judd-233 known, according to the authoritative uspatterns.com website.
