Description

"1799" (ca. 1800) Westwood Medal. First Reverse. Musante GW-82, Baker-81. Bronze. MS-63 (PCGS).
40.5 mm. 603.3 grains. Pleasing olive-brown with remnants of faded rosy orange in the peripheral recesses. Glossy throughout, pleasing, and without any serious marks. The variant with the small period below 68 at the lower reverse, which Baker, Rulau and Fuld took as the later of the two issues. However, Neil Musante correctly reversed this order, as this is the earlier issue of the two. Another English issue by Obadiah Westwood, his signature at Washington's truncation.
From the Richard August Collection.

Estimate: $500
