"1797" (ca. 1806-1807) Sansom Medal. Presidency Relinquished. Original. Early Impression. Musante GW-58, Baker-71A, Julian PR-1. Copper, Tinned. MS-62 (PCGS).
40.5 mm. 412.4 grains. The initial appearance of this specimen is that of silver with the surfaces tinned to give that impression without the cost of a silver strike. Most of this surface is intact, offering pleasing light silver gray over both sides, gently giving way to deeper brown on the high points. Cleary a very early treatment, likely close to the time of sale and nicely preserved since. Unusual, and rather handsome. From an early state of the dies with no evidence of die rust or spalling seen on the silver impression offered in the previous lot. A trace of wear, but no notable marks.
From the Richard August Collection.
