1783 Washington Georgius Triumpho Token. Musante GW-54, Baker-7, W-10100. AU-55 (PCGS).
28.0 mm. 135.9 grains. Glossy and handsome medium brown surfaces with just a trace of somewhat olive patina seen through the recesses of the legend. No serious marks are noted, though a couple of tiny pin scratches are visible around the R of GEORGIUS. Very nicely struck from dies in their middle state. Cracked through the reverse as usually seen, but not severely enough to distort the design. A popular type celebrating the American victory in the Revolution led by the triumphant George Washington, supported by France, and sealed by the Peace of 1783.
From the Richard August Collection.
