Copy 1779 John Stewart at Stony Point Medal. Obverse Shell. After Betts-567, Adams-Bentley 7. Bronze. About Uncirculated.
46.5 mm. 8.16 grams. Sharply defined overall to allow full appreciation of this classic design. Attractive color in a blend of warm antique copper and brighter rose-brown, the surfaces have some mild glossiness and faint hairlines from a long ago cleaning. There are no sizeable marks, and a few swirls of ancient carbon are small enough to be easily overlooked during in-hand viewing. The only confirmed original example of the John Stewart at Stony Point medal in private hands realized $900,000 in our April 2024 sale of the Richard Margolis Collection. Well produced copies, even an unjoined half such as this, represents the only realistically obtainable alternatives for most collectors.
