1697 Cartagena Captured Medal. Betts-83. Bronze. MS-64 BN (PCGS).
41 mm. 486.1 grains. Plain edge. A beautiful medal, with lustrous chocolate brown surfaces on the obverse and deep tan on the reverse, with pull-away patina revealing mint color around peripheral legends. Double struck to bring up bold relief, and immaculately well preserved. Ford had six of these. Four decades after the French reduced and captured Cartagena, the English under Vernon had a go at it with less success.
From the Joe Foster Collection. Earlier ex Leonard Finn, December 1983; John W. Adams, March 2018.
