Description

"1690" (early 20th century) Quebec Preserved Medal. Betts-73. Bronze. Unc Details--Cleaned (PCGS).
41.0 mm. 527.2 grains. Edge marked (cornucopia) BRONZE at the Paris Mint, distinguishing this as a 20th century product. Attractive lustrous golden-brown, a pleasing and distinctive tone, with smooth mark-free fields. Some hairlines are seen on both sides, but they are the only drawback to this example. Boldly double struck, bringing up exquisite detail among Louis' curls. A scarce Betts number; Ford had just one of these, not acquired until 1967. We have not offered one aside from this one in decades.
From the Joe Foster Collection. Earlier from our Americana Sale of January 2012, part of lot 6007.

Estimate: $500
