1690 Quebec Preserved Medal. Betts-69. Bronze. MS-64 BN (PCGS).
41.0 mm. 538.9 grains. Plain edge. Rich chocolate brown with lively gold and subtle pastels in the lustrous, glossy fields. A particularly handsome example, problem free but for a few little specks of verdigris here and there. The relief is fully struck up, and two distinct strikes are easily seen at the reverse periphery. The edges are rounded and filed, as issued by the Paris Mint. A nice early strike that has been splendidly maintained since the 18th century.
From the Joe Foster Collection. Earlier from Encheres Champagne Auctions' sale of May 2017, lot 162.
