SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.08 gms), Susa Mint, ca. 300-295 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
HGC-9, 20; SC-173.11. Obverse: Bust of hero (Alexander or Seleukos?) right, wearing Attic helmet covered with a panther skin and adorned with bull's ear and horns; Reverse: Nike standing right, placing wreath on top of a trophy of arms to her right; monogram to lower left; between Nike and trophy, ΔI. A beautiful Tetradrachm of this fabled type issued by Seleukos. The helmeted bust displays proudly with strong detail and an expressive face. The reverse is rather well-centered, allowing a complete reading of the king's name on the left. The coin is pale gray with an even tone and round flan, and lacks the scratches or graffiti so often seen on the issue. A great example that should please any collector seeking the type.
NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
