DENMARK. 8 Daler Klippe, 1604. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU-55.
Fr-44; KM-27; Hede-10; Sieg-148; Schou-1; Bruun-4666. Weight: 17.62 gms. Mintmaster: Nicolaus Schwabe. Superbly struck and retaining copious amounts of mint luster. Whereas the 6 and especially the 4 Dalers, albeit rare, sometimes appear on the market, the hefty 8 Daler is normally considered completely unobtainable. Schwabe who had immigrated from Saxony was assigned to the Royal court in 1595 and became the first to produce struck medals in Denmark. In 1602 he was appointed mintmaster in Copenhagen where this wonderful gold klippe was struck in a number of 409 pieces.
From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922).
