Description

DENMARK. Penny, ND (1042-1047). Haithabu (Hedeby) Mint. Magnus I "the Good" (Magnus den gode). NGC Unc Details--Bent.
Hauberg-38; Hauberg Collection-727; C. J. Becker, NNUM, 1983, p. 42 ff.; Bruun-1632; Weight: 0.74 gms. Moneyer: Iule. Apart from light blotches of verdigris, a remarkably lovely piece. Not only is this an extremely rare type, it is also highly unusual. The obverse design with the king being shown en face and the fortress on the reverse are quite unique, and the reverse legend where the moneyer lets the coin speak is equally remarkable: +IVLE ME FECIT ("Jule had me made").
From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922).

Estimate: €3000.00 - €4000.00
