JAPAN. Bank of Japan. 1000 Yen, ND (1945). P-45a. SB167. PMG About Uncirculated 53.
First printed in 1942 but never issued, these notes were finally released in August of 1945 as currency shortages necessitated the release of stock kept in the vaults of the Bank of Japan. In the first two weeks after Japan's surrender in World War II, the country faced severe economic turmoil, with widespread shortages of food and essential supplies due to the devastation of the war. Scarce in any grade, this is a lightly circulated example of this important type that faces up well with just a hint of circulation.
