Description

Highly Important 100 Dollars = 100 Piastres of 1903
FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Banque de I'Indo-Chine. 100 Dollars = 100 Piastres, 9.3.1903. P-32. PMG Very Fine 25.
Saigon, serial number E.10 705. This remarkable offering was sold by us in 2015 and we are honoured to be offering it again nearly ten years later. Pillar design styling at left and right with Vasco da Gama at left and a Polynesian man at right. Ships at sea lower center. Purple manuscript signature left with engraved signature at right. Some staining and minor rust at the staple holes are observed along with a few minor notches at the top margin, but the paper quality is strong, and the color is still fresh for the age of the note. Overall pleasing quality for the VF grade. The final iteration of the type with "Hundred Dollars" at left in English, replaced shortly after the issuance of this type with both sides exclusively in French. An immensely high denomination at the time of issue coupled with the humid climate in South East Asia meant very few examples have survived to the present day, let alone in this condition. The present example is one of just two examples of this Pick number presently graded by PMG (both graded Very Fine 25), a number that has not gone up in years, with no new discoveries of this rarity in recent times. An original note without any cleaning or restoration and an exciting note for the French Indo-China connoisseur! PMG Comments "Rust, Stains."

Estimate: $20000.00 - $25000.00
