(t) CHINA. Gold 5 Taels Ingot, ND (ca. 1946-49). Shanghai Mint. UNCIRCULATED Details--Cut.
cf. L&M-1072 (for general design). Weight: 158.80. The obverse stamp presents the profile head of Sun Yat-sen as appearing on the "junk" coinage from the early 1930's, along with a depiction of spade money and characters to the right and left. The authority of the central mint is conveyed, though the specific design isn't a complete match with the other 10 & 5 Tael ingots in L&M. Furthermore, it appears to be cut on the right side, possibly indicating that the original weight was that of 10 Taels, with each subsequent cut portion weighing 5. A curious and seemingly VERY RARE example.
(t) On September 1, 2019, the United States enacted new tariffs on collector's items of Chinese origin, including bullion and numismatic coins and banknotes.
