Auckland issue. An important trial from the Bank of New Zealand that according to our research is an unissued trial for the 1 Pound issue of the Bank of New Zealand produced by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. in the 1880s. The Clifford reference does not list this type, but list another issue that is very similar, but with different vignettes (D422), which is also listed in the Pick catalog, and is in the same color as seen here. As such, we disagree with PMG's attribution, but due to the rarity of this type in this format, it is not surprising that there is some confusion regarding this piece. Regardless, this is a one sided proof and one of only a few such examples with this design that we have seen, with two punch hole cancellations. An important opportunity for the New Zealand specialist to acquire this appealing and rare type. PMG Comments "Previously Mounted."
